Hi everyone,
I'm happy to announce the recent "birth" of a website dedicated to softsynths for the linux platform. As anyone familiar with linux OS may know, there are many instruments, plugins and utilities available, and new stuff is coming out quite quickly!

You can see some brief descriptions and some audio demos using the softsynths without additional instruments or effects, here:

amSynth.com

Curious to hear your thoughts!

Thanks Nigel!
There's lots of stuff happening in the linux community these days. People are starting to see that it's easy to get a setup going without doing much other than inserting a CD/DVD.
To help things, I've put a link on the home page to a little guide that might be useful to some.

Open source is really nice, if a person wants to get "outside" Windows and out into the open. Lots of different "flavors" for just about everyone. I'm not a programmer in the least, and yet I like linux better than I ever did Windows.

And some of the synths are just really cool. WhySynth is a true beast, with 150+ waveform types to choose from. Some beautiful stuff there... I hope to get some more demos out in the next week or so.. and some more screencasts.

Currently at work I am working on slot machine software. Almost all video slot machines are Linux or flavors of Linux such as QNX. They all use OpenAL for audio.

I thought I'd share a patch I made this evening, kind of "old school" style, using amSynth and a couple of Calf plugins (chorus and delay). Enjoy!

Here's an interesting patch that emulates dripping water:

I've posted a few demos of amSynth on Soundcloud, after realizing that some people are still using Internet Explorer for their browser..

I put together a very short demo using a distorted guitar-type patch, seems to work..

Hi everyone,

Banks 13 and 14 are now available for amSynth, one of several linux-based softsynths. You can freely download them here:

amSynth

A few demos are also provided.. just click on the "single instance demos" link.

Enjoy!

You can also get most of the windows stuff working under wine...

Biggest problem with Linux is the different repository for the different Linux versions,...
