I've decided to get a home piano. Basically, here are my desires:

1. Best weighted action
2. Best acoustic/grand piano sounding patch
3. Best sound system
4. At least a 2 track recorder

Not really interested in styles. My thoughts are: CVP line, Kurzweil new digitals or Roland.

Thoughts are appreciated

Jim...that is a wide open market...Do you need/want fancy woodwork decor?

Roland has a complete line depending on your price range..Korg has a full line too..Yamaha also to an extent..Kurz has dropped off a bit in the line up..

If you are looking for a bargain price portable...MF has their deal on the new Casio model $1,000 model for $499..

The only reply I can give is this:

1. It is all so subjective so you really need to go and listen to each brand yourself
2. These are like arrangers, no one brand has ALL those things you requested...on some of your points you WILL need to compromise

Go to a dealer that has all these brands lined up, and make your choice based on what sound your ears prefer.

Yep... one man's perfect piano is another man's dog! Some people are Steinway guys, some are Yamaha fans, some only want a Fazioli!

Try them all...

Cp series with graded hammer effect is good for price-performance ratio.

Definately give a very serious look at the new Casio Privia's. Good luck with your purchase

Not sure what the new models are like, but Kawai always had wondeful actions - and even used wooden keys on some models.

Casio has a new Privia PX850. It is pretty amazing! 256 note polyphony, Ivory and Ebony keys, adjustable Hammer Response which controls the time deviation between when a key is pressed and when the note actually sounds, string resonance which allows the undamped strings to resonate when other notes are played, lid simulation adjusts how sound resonates in accordance with the opening state of a grand piano lid, 2 track recorder, audio records a stereo track as a wave file on USB device plugged into keyboard, loud built in speakers and best of all a price just above $1,000.00. Watch some of the youtube videos of players reviewing this model. You would have to spend thousands of dollars to get something close to this new model.
