as we know speed is not of importance as the AUDYA will never take advantage of the latest, reatest , fastest, BUT

what is the SSD which will "technically" LAST the longest?

what do we look for as far as specs as far as longevity?

and what size height, 7mm or 9mm ?

i assume we stick to 120GB as Audya wont see anything bigger than 80GB, unless of course we have AJAMSONIC. in which then its sees 120GB..

thanks for your input/suggestions my friends

i quote this from a website
it tells you how long your SSD should last

"To help users estimate how long an SSD will last, SSD vendors such as OCZ have come up with formula: a drive's life span equals its capacity multiplied by its write endurance rating, divided by the average daily writes. For example, the 120GB Vertex 3 SSD has a write endurance rating of 3,000 cycles. If you write 50GB on the drive daily, the total number of days the drive will last before becoming unreliable is: (120 x 3,000)/50 = 7,200 days, which is about 20 years. If you write an average of 100GB a day, the drive would last about 10 years."

question is how many GB will be read/accessed during a typical 4 hr gig by the Audya? (assuming all styles using audio drums, audio guitars, etc.)

and does reading and writing have an equal impact as far as the SSD life expectancy? or writes have more impact?

AJ?

this SSD-Audya scenario has really gotten me VERY interested wink

I think Darren had crunched the numbers in another similar thread (snoopy's I believe). You can search that for more details on the SSD.

For some reason, "18 years" rings a bell in my mind out of that discussion.

Thanks,

I don't know what his particular drive uses, but if anyone is considering the same move, make sure you are using a drive built using at least 25nm NAND unless its going to get very light use.

Problem I find is MOST manufacturers don't list the NAND specs so you don't know if its 25 nm or 34nm

Any recommendations on a good 34nm SSD?
