Tonight! Saturday Jan 12th, 2013 - Uncle Dave will bring his vocal styles, humerous wit and "complicated" musical interpretations (aka "chord substitutions", for you jazzers - "wrong chords", for the rest of us! lol)
to EWING New Jersey!BYOB 6-10pm
Stop by and see the Yamaha s950 in action at the hands of one of the tri-state area's most requested performers at:

http://www.mammaflorastrattoria.com/location.aspx

Guest appearances are always a possibility, and the food and staff are first rate! Stop by and enjoy a brick oven pizza and ask Uncle Dave to sing your favorite song!

Good times to be had!

See you at Mamma's!

Dave: Thanks for posting this. I think more Synthzoners should announce public gigs. I'm in the area and will try to see you tonight at Mamma's.

OK - questions ....
1st, yes Donny, since my knee surgery, I sit. Hope it doesn't last too much longer - I hate it.
2nd, Bob - it'll be great to meet you! Glad you can make it.
3rd, Fran ... funny how that worked out about the bracing. (smart-A**) wink
4th, the mic boom is a custom rig I made years ago - it started with a commercial Quik-Lok product, as Donny quoted, but I use a different upright to hold the boom - it's much smaller, and folds out of the way for transit. There is a cup holder that serves as a business card holder/tip cup that appears to be part of it, but it's not .... just hanging off of it.
It looks very much like the picture Gary posted, but it attaches around the tube end with a 30mm collar. The upright is just the upper part of a mic stand that I cut to size. It's only 6 inches tall - I like compact.
smile
Hope to see some of you at Mamma's tonight!

ps: here's a few close-ups of the mic boom attachment.

Yup - except for the odd private party, holiday season or summer, my school year schedule is just the 2nd Sat of each month. It's too busy at school to do more than that.

BTW - why do some pictures appear in the post, and others provide a link to the file? Is that user changeable? Hmmmm

My wife and I went to hear Uncle Dave. He was great. Nicest guy you could expect to meet! A really good musician, singer and showman. He knows how to make a very happy audience. The PSR-s950 and the Bose sounded good, and the food was good too. I look forward to hearing Dave again.

Below is a photo of the handsome fellow at work. Phone picture was a little fuzzy, so no he doesn't have six fingers on his left hand. It would be cool for octaves and chords if he did though.

I took some videos on the phone and posted a sampler up on You Tube. Enjoy! I did.

We should be supporting each other. I hope others take Dave's lead and post when they are performing publicly for others to hear.

Nigel,
That's a Line6 variaxe 500 straight into the Bose with NO effects. I used 2 tones tonight - 6 and 12 string acoustics. Oh yeah, and later on I used a 4th position Strat setting for Tracy Chapman's "Gimmie one Reason" ... sounded great! Very "Stevie Ray-esq!" (The tone, NOT the player!) wink

Huh Dave!

Your behind glass where no one can hear you, speakers facing away as well, "Whats going on" love the tie and the floor tiles. No live music in the UK in eating houses, people just want to talk..

Don't I know it Tony, getting old aint much fun ... but it sure is better than not getting old.

Hey, have you decided what your next keyboard will be? I guess it isn't the Kronos after all.

The Variaxe sure is handy. I use a Variaxe 300 for acoustic guitar with the band I play in.

But because we play mainly rock I run it directly into my tube amp which works best for the electric guitar emulations.
Using the line out box was good for acoustic guitar but not so good for the electric guitar models.
I bought mine on eBay and the neck had been replaced with a Squier Telecaster neck which feels real nice and fitted it perfectly.
The Variaxe line sure is a winner. Really beats having to carry around a real acoustic guitar.

We also play "Redneck Woman" and I can switch from acoustic guitar to banjo for the ending which really surpises people.

I just wish it didn't use up batteries so quick lol..

Nice stuff Dave. A little to far from Cape May to come hear you but we will see you again at the Crab Trap next summer.
I know the area you played in well, my uncle used to have a car business on Olden Ave. and my grandparents lived in Trenton. Spent lots of summers there.

Keep doin it you sound great

I've had the honor and privilege to see UD perform on a half-dozen occasions. UD is a great entertainer, can really do wonderful things with left-hand bass, sings great and keeps his audiences captivated. He's a real pro and taught me a lot over the years.

Cheers,

Dave, I'm way behind. So, would you mind filling me in about getting rid of your Korg PA800. You seemed to be real happy with it. I'd appreciate hearing from you. Just email me if you'd like. brickboo2@yahoo.com.

Thanks Dave

Always remember with fondness Dave's visit here...it was entirely too short.

He's one player I would really like to work with. I truly believe we could get on a bandstand with guitar, keyboards, bass vibes, horns....whatever and play a week with no repeats and rehearsals. Trading leads and calling songs would come so naturally.

He's what a great arranger player should sound like.

Hey Boo!
I still love that i5s that you sold me years ago - I took it to school and play it every day with my kids! It's a workhorse.
As for the 800 - the reason it's out to pasture was mostly build quality. Too much plastic, and the buttons started falling inward. I fixed more than one before I decided that I wanted something else. It sounded great, but I lost faith in it's durability. I have NO doubts about the PA3x - this thing is SOLID.

Haha! Custom seat ... It's funny - must look like I'm sitting on that long bench, but I have been carrying my own collapsible piano bench since I had my knee fixed in October. I'm hoping by summer, I can do the standing routine again. Right now ... it's just not comfortable.
You're a riot, Larry!

Dave,
I had my variation 4 push button in on the dinosaur i30 years ago, but that is the only one and yet it works. Ha ha.

I've never heard you before this post. If I did it was very little.

It made me listen to Billy Joel. His phrasing reminded me of Ray. Lots of musicians playing piano and doing vocals have a bit of Ray in them especially if they grew up in the 50's and 60's.
