I continue to look around for a new keyboard but once again......would like a bit of advice from you folks.

I have decided against paying big bucks for the likes of a Tyros 4 at the minute. I primarily use VSTs and have just bought a Novation Impulse so think it is best for me to get a MOTL board at the minute and wait to see what happens over the next 12-18 months with potential new releases.

So........I can pick up a second hand PSR S910 for about £620 (good deal I'd say) but will need to make my decision this evening.

Alternatively - for a bit more RRP £799 I could get a new PA600.

The price difference isn't a major factor so would the general consensus be that I should go for the newer technology? New doesn't automatically mean better though so wouldn't mind hearing others opinions. Is one more impressive with bread and butter sounds? I think it's safe to say that both are impressive for the potential outlay but should I pay the bit more and get the new PA600?

Thanks for any comments.

Stein,
I opted for the S950 even though I presently do own a Tyros 4. My decision was based solely on the need to have a lighter keyboard for my gigs. So far I have been very pleased with it.

I will take a very serious look at the new PA600 when it becomes available here in the US too because I like the variety of having two different keyboards.

I can own both of these keyboards for about half of what the T4 costs these days.

Thanks Deane for replying.

Yeah, the 950 and PA600 together look like a nice combo. I've just decided to go for one of the MOTL boards and wait to see what Yamaha might do with the T5.......

The music shops here are a disaster so I have no way of trying myself with regards the Korg.

I have tried the 910 in the past for a few minutes in store and thought it was a nice keyboard - but with the new PA600 only out I'm wondering if that is a wiser move?

Stein, what type of music do you do? Are you going to play live through a PA or are going to be mostly playing/recording at home? Both keyboards are more than capable of slingin sounding great. You can't go wrong with either but I think both have their strengths and weakness. Anyways, if I knew your musical style/ goals I could give an opinion.

Hi montunoman,

My style of music is all over the shop lol!! Pop/Rock/Folk/Dance.....who knows - you could safely say my music taste is eclectic.

I am currently recording my own material in my home studio using a DAW (cubase) and a lot of amazing VSTs. I want an arranger so I can use it as a quick sketch pad for new ideas and also to just sit down and play......the blues or maybe a few cover versions etc.,

It'll be used exclusively at home and I have no intention of gigging with it. It may get hooked up to my studio monitors if I fully integrate it in to my studio setup but I'd imagine it'll just be used as a separate unit quite a bit.

Thanks for any advice mate, I really can't decide and must make a decision by tomorrow because the 910 is pre-owned and I won't mess the guy around who is selling.

Cheers

Hi Stein.

I have a PA600 and a tyros3.

I would go for the PSR-S910 for that price.

Regards George.

Hi George,

Yeah, that is the decision I went with smile With so many 3rd party styles, as well as being a more than capable keyboard itself, for the money I think the 910 will suit me fine for what I want.

Money sent - so no changing my mind this time!!

Looking forward to getting it and playing an arranger again.

Stein,
If it's not a lot more, I would consider the S950, perhaps the next best thing to the T4, which you indicated as the keyboard you most desire.

Hi Stein, bassed on your "ecletic" taste, I'd say go for the Yamaha. You'll be able to find all sorts of styles in the generas that you mention. Now if you were playing live, especially for dancers I'd go for the Korg.

Kind regards,

Paul
