How much should I pay for a KN7000.Can I get the proper SD cards for it or are they obselete too? The store here has SDHC cards, which someone said may not work in the 7000. I have the 6500 - does the same foot pedal work and will all my 6500 disks work on the 7000. Any advice appreciated ,Thank you. Cheers Jean Olivia. PS I am in Australia.

Hello Jean,

The KN7000 is currently changing hands in UK for around £800, which at the current exchange rate is about $1270 Australian.
You must use Standard SD Cards NOT SDHC card - The KN7000 operating system will not recognise these higher capacity cards - they were not around when the KN7000 was designed and they use a different addressing system to the Standard cards.

It is true that the Standard SD Cards are becoming scarce but they are still around - but mainly at the higher capacity level i.e 1GB and 2GB - do a Google Search......
In UK, it seems that most are available in Micro SD format, (for mobile phones etc.) but that is not really a problem since that variety usually comes with an adapter which converts the Micro format to the standard physical size.

Exactly the same foot pedals as used on the 6500 - both single and 4 Way versions - are 100% compatible with the KN7000 as is a Swell pedal which works with the KN6500.
Your 6500 disks will also work fine in a KN7000, although you may have to do some minor 'tweaking' of the actual sounds. Most of the time, this will not be necessary.

Hope this helps Jean smile

Thanks for your reply, Bill. The seller is asking $2200 AUS, and I have offered $2000,so I will have to have a big think.I wonder what my 6500 is worth now. It is sad when you think how much we paid for them, but I have had years of enjoyment out of my 6500, and will never part with it. Cheers. Jean Olivia.

Hi Jean,

have you at your KN 6500, the special cable to make a backup of the hard disk on your PC?
If this were the case, you could push the backup to the SD card. The program (Music Data Base Converter) is free and can be downloaded or I could send you.
Look here:

Hi Jean, I think your offer is reasonable in $A terms as they are scarce and the nearest you can get to the KN7 is Korg at about $4000 (plus the speaker, approx $600 so I am told) or Tyros 4 at ?????? S/H on e-bay was asking mid $5000.
All that Bill said is correct. You can get the 2GB cards if you google them and you do not need anything larger for the KN7. I would suggest that you buy a few when you find them, I feel they may be discontinued in the near future.
Good luck with your purchase, you will not regret it.

Thank you all for your advice. I have found a source for the SD Cards on the internet, have offered to meet the asking price of $2200, if the seller has all the bits and pieces that came with the board and it is in as new condition. The seller is an elderly chap who offered me his music, which is all EASYPLAY, so I dont think he has been out gigging with it. The 7000s are scarce, especially to find one that I can pick up myself and give a cushy ride home on the back seat of the car. I am not keen on courriers for keyboards.I think I have got this one -just waiting to hear back from him.Cheers. Jean.

Hi all. I picked up the 7000 today after a quick try out at the chaps house and all seemed well, but I find now that the tempo wheel is not working smoothly and will not change steadily, but will stay on the same tempo although you are gently turning the wheel. Very disappointed as I think it will have to go back. Every thing else seems fine. SD card was unopened. What a blow.!! Tired and unhappy, but Im going to bed. It is nearly 2a.m. cheers Jean.

Hello Jean,

When I exchanged my first KN7 for a Tyros 3 the tempo wheel was also 'slipping' and I did point this out to the Dealer but he told me he wasn't worried as it was a simple job to fix it. Unfortunately, he didn't tell me how but I thought you might like to know that it can be done. Meanwhile, whilst pressing down on the wheel very slightly, I used to turn it slower than usual until it showed the tempo number in the screen. This can then be saved along with your sets to the panel memory.

I can guess how disappointed you feel but give it a try, it might just work for you. If it doesn't, I suggest you email Bill Norrie or Alec Pagida - both highly knowledgeable on the KN7000 and more than likely can tell you what to do about it.

Chin up! Audrey

Audry. I am hoping the man from the "keyboard hospital" can help
find a new part. I dont think that the wheel can be repaired. I am waiting to hear back from him. Meanwhile I am having a play around with the keyboard - I would hate to have to return it. Turning it slowly does work if you only need to increase a small amount, but reversing to slow down is pretty hopeless.
My fear would be that it is on the way out and soon may not work at all. Thinking about that- I'm in the same boat. Ha Ha.Jean.

John...I went to Giovanni's suggested site..Could not find a listing/part number for "Tempo Wheel".....

If you got a tempo wheel from that site, what is the part number and part name? What did it cost?

Interested in getting two for my 7K's....

The TEMPO/PROGRAM Wheel device Circuit reference is SW1101 and its Part Number is QSRGT003AA. It is referred to as the 'Encoder Switch'

This device may be supplied complete with its own seperate small Printed Circuit board, on which it is mounted. PCB14 Part Number SXPG239011B It is referred to as the ROT PCB

It is in Greenhill's Parts list : http://www.wdgreenhill.com/manu/technics/technics_parts.htm
Probably best to email the company......

Good News. I had a thought that it might just be fluff or dust and got the vac cleaner and vacced around the wheel and gently turned it back and forward. I thought nothing had changed. When I started it up again a few hours later, the wheel worked perfectly. The owner had not used the keyboard for a couple of years. It just proves the old saying is true -USE IT OR LOSE IT.This also must apply to keyboards. Would it be a good idea to buy a spare if still available. It renders the keyboard pretty useless if it fails.Thank you Bill and John for the advice and lead.I am now a happy 7000 player. I will still hang onto my 6500 to take out to play. The 7000 is too heavy and will always stay home. I call it Cinderella. Cheers. Jean.

So pleased that worked itself out Jean. I am guessing you are one of the very few KN7000 owners on the Mornington Peninsula.
