This topic is music related and fun. I find the bar more for non music conversations.Just my opinion. You know what they say about opinions.

I thought James Durbin was the winner Tuesday night, with Casey Abrams a close second. The judges were somewhat tough on Scotty McCreery, but when he was singing that LeAnn Rimes song, my wife and I looked at each other, and said "WOW".

Overall, IMO, this particular American Idol episode was one of the most memorable TV shows ever. When you reach the final 7 they are ALL great, and the show just flowed at an entertaining pace, with very little chit-chat, and the contestants were there to sing, and this show allowed then to do just that, without a lot of dead air time.

I also believe the judges are better than ever. Who can NOT like J-Lo, and Steven Tyler has been a pleasant surprise. I for one do not miss Simon and Paula for one second. These 'new' judges can be critical, without being arrogant

Remember to the young...NOW is the good ol' days...so hop on board the bandwagon, you may even enjoy it.

It would be a bit more relevant if at least a few of the contestants played arranger keyboards.

However, nothing wrong with a bit of AI Karaoke for those times when the DVD player is on the blink.

The prizes are cool.

I must get cable hooked back up so I can see what all the fuss is about....ahhh...on second thought...maybe not.

Yep, the Tower of Power Band is a legend , especially here in the San Francisco Bay Area as they hail from Oakland,CA. Interestingly enough though, I've just learned from a local musician who remembers the 70's, who told me that one prominent band member from the original Tower Of Power Band definitely couldn't be there to sign Uncle Dave's guitar, yet he was the lead vocalist on TOP's hits: "You're Still A Young Man" and "Sparkling In The Sand". The TOP lead vocalist was Rick Stevens (aka: Donald Stevenson). In addition to his musical accomplishments, Rick Stevens was also known for committing one of the most notorious crimes in the San Francisco Bay Area in the Seventies, in which he and an accomplice murdered three drug dealers to whom he had owed money. He was given a double life sentence, in which he had to serve a 25-year minimum. Interesting to note that he was high on drugs (I assume supplied by those drug dealers) when he committed that act. It's been several years since he served the 25 year minimum, and the authorities haven't let him out. Ironic that Rick Stevens is 'no longer' a young man. Here are the articles I found on the subject:

East Bay Express (2002) begins: 3rd paragraph

Rick Stevens The Double Murderer

Hmmm, I didn't google it, but I'd bet you that Lenny Williams sang "You're still a young man". I have the 40th anniversary DVD and there is one more signature on that one ( Mic Gillette ) from a founding member, but Mic is off on his own again after a 2 yr tour with TOP. Lot's of turnover, but right now, there are 4 founding members and one 80's alum in the band. The "new" guys have been there 15+ years (most of them!)
