I'm saying he is playing along with a recording (MIDI or WAV) of the vibes. If you watch the second video carefuly, the mallet balls are larger than a key on the Tyros. The balls are pressing several notes at the same time.
I may even try this at one of my gigs for some entertainment value.

Jerry, looks like he is using a softer, bigger set of mallets on the second video. The first ones are rubber. the second ones are wrapped in what looks like soft knitting yarn.
I'm one of the last real vibes "hold-outs" and have lots of mallets in different sizes, hardness, etc.

On review, with some stopping, it looked like he sometimes got one key down and sometimes one key down and the next ones partially. With the right velocity setting could this be the way to use wide mallets? regards, chuck
