CD+G to midi? I'm not concerned about having the words show up, just desire the great (dare I say) Karaoke Georgia Brown arrangements.

I'm then looking to have them on a stick, show up on my "songs" menu in the PA800 from where I can mute and balance tracks.

Can it be done?

thank you.

No...Well not very well anyhoo Zuki..

There are no "serious" polyphonic Audio to MIDI converters out there worth a damn really.

Some pretty good mono audio ones, ie a single instrument/solo vocal only, but for full band audio, none.

Zuki, I think Donny is saying just convert the CD-G over to an MP3 file and then use that as your backing track.

Although you WILL need to install the mp3 card into your PA800..

Hi Zuki
This is probably the best there is, http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=products_editor and it works polyphonically too. (Just remember it is not a real time process)
Hope this helps

But not very well Bill...At least I would not recommend using the output for anything professional...
Have you actually tried using it to extract even just drums, for example? Let alone correctly guessing the pitch and length of overdrive and distorted guitars...then separating all the effects that have been applied to the audio track....I could go on with a whole lot more reasons why they don't work well, but I think you get the idea...

Thxs guys, but what I'm after (after research) is a midi file. This is the only file I can take from my song mode to the sequencer mode in order to make track changes. An mp3 will not allow this in the 800. Midi files just don't have the quality and backup vocals as mp3 or cd+g

Well then why not just find a Karaoke version...karoke is only a midi file BUT with scrolling lyrics added and the extension .kar...
Its very easy to make it JUST a midi file from a .kar file

Bill,

This is exactly what I'd like to do. I have these Sweet Georgia Brown CD+G that are awesome. How in the world do I convert these off the CD to a midi file? Your help would be greatly appreciated. I don't care about the lyrics - I memorize everything anyway.

Zuki, I keep pushing his $80 program..It will take your CD-g(Wave) or any MP3...You can remove areas or add even via midi data..change the key or tempo and resave(mixdown) in the MP3 format that your PA800 with MP3 card can read...
Here is the link for a free 14 day trial..You guys are resisting a great software..with soft synths worth 10 times the price of the software..

When will you guys understand there is NO program that will convert all the parts of an audio file to midi.

PERIOD

Forget about " centre cancelling " software too, as most recordings these days either have the centre channel (mostly vocals) doubled and panned left or right, and/or effects which are nearly always panned left and right, so even if the centre is removed you STILL get the main vocal....

You CAN get good results with a recording of a single instrument or solo vocal..

But if you want some program to magically analyse an audio file with several instruments and vocals and then say "ooh thats a guitar track, or thats a bass track, oh and thats a cowbell sound, and then theres a snare drum flam, etc etc, and then give an accurate note for note MIDI conversion, well, it just ain't gonna happen....

Sorry to be so blunt, but sheesh, even a Cray Super Computer would not be able to do this...

There is SO much frequency bleed between so many instruments, what you will end up with is a jumble of midi data which will take a month to sort out....Much quicker to just record it yourself!!

Dennis

No Donny, no need to shuushhhh I have examined that program, and its okay, but not worthy of the praise heaped upon it in my view...

And it STILL will not strip out each individual note from a complex multi instrument/vocal audio file and give you a coherent corresponding MIDI file...

Hi Zuki
I have no use for this type of software; however the write ups in a lot of the Pro forums and magazines rate it highly for what it does.
As with all conversion software there will always is editing required to get the final product as you wish?
The best thing to do is download the demo and see if it does what you want.
NOTE: While note and sound separation is easy for the brain to do, you’re talking at least 10 – 15 years before a computer will be able to reach this level, and even then will probably be in the Cray Super Computer price league. (Add another 10 – 15 years for personal use)
Hope this helps, as I don’t know of any other software that gets comments as good as Melodyne

Dennis, are you sure we are talking about the same software...First..the software will not convert audio to midi data..and I did not mention that..
What it does it does well and is a "Swiss knife " software...
Secondly..you mentioned in another thread (maybe it was someone else) how impressed you were with VST's you found and purchased...also the organ software you
planned on getting too...well the assorted VST's that are shipped with MixCraft5 include Lounge Lizard, Messiah (a Great Prophet 5 synth) and the exact organ software that was mentioned...In all there are more than a half dozen quality VST's..The MixCraft5 software also serves as a host..and you can use an unlimited number of different VST's in combination....even running Windows..

I am telling you this because I wouldn't want anyone discouraged from trying the trial time to examine this great value software....I think they could be mislead by your comments....It will not convert audio (Wave, CD-g, MP3 etc) to midi data...and you are correct that has never worked with any software...also the center cancellation is as you said ..a hit and miss at best....but don't confuse these features..with MixCraft5...they are not even part of the program...

Yes Fran I agree , BUT the OP was about converting CD-G to MIDI, and NOTHING at all to do with the Mixcraft..

I was re-enforcing the fact that this program does not do it.
I appreciate you promoting something you like, however you SHOULD have stated quite clearly, that it did not do what the OP was originally asking for..This you did not so I was merely pointing that fact out

This is another example of where a thread goes awry, as it has now turned into a discussion re the pros and cons of mixer software and NOT about software to convert audio files to midi files...

Dennis

And Fran, by all means promote good software if you find it, (and I actually DO agree that the Mixcraft looks okay, not in the same league as Sonar 8.5, but it is a lot cheaper) after all in a lot of cases thats how we hear about this gear.

But I think it should be in its own thread, or HAS relevance to the original topic posted

In this case it did neither!

Yes Fran, you bad boy. I hope you are suitably remorseful. Just remember, Big Brother is watching you. Thank goodness we have some law and order on this board (self-appointed though it be).

I have to say that Dennis was correct in that the Mixcraft 5 software was not something that would have help the original poster.

The original poster stated that he wanted the result to be a midi file. The person who mentioned the Mixcraft 5 software even quoted the original poster stating he wanted a resulting midi file.

The Mixcraft 5 software would result in you getting an MP3 file which the original poster stated he did not want.

Sure the Mixcraft 5 is good for people but it was not what the poster had asked for and ending up causing confusion. And, as a result, you end up talking about other things that were not mentioned in the post. That however, could be good because it could give the poster an alternate way of accomplishing the task.

No need for any one to get upset. Its all good.
