Does someone know if there is an alternative to the "default" yamaha tyros 2 speakers?

I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to spending $270 on home speakers...

There are alot of similar computer speakers that feature two or more speakers and a subwoofer... Do they have the right jacks plugs etc.?

Buy Studio Monitors, you can use them for years and they sound a lot better than pc speakers.
Look for Yamaha HS,KRK,Alesis,Tannoy and many more brands.

Shim,
If you buy cheap speakers now you will end up replacing them later. I used a pair of M-Audio BX5a speakers - even on gigs at first. They are great sounding and ran about $300.00 for the pair at Guitar Center. Like a previous poster said - there are others - best for you to go listen to them in the store first.

I have a set of Klipsch and a set of Bose speakers that are actually meant for computers and it was a surprise how good they sounded with my Yamaha keyboards. They were both under $200.00. I ended up not using them very much after I got the M-Audios.

Good luck with your search.

I am using a pair of Bose speakers that fit on the Yamaha mounts that fit on the tyros 2 and the original Yamaha Bass woofer for this keyboard. They are ok for in the studio. I have a sound wall composed of many amps and speakers I can plug into but these bose work pretty good.
Bose 161 left and right.
I bought them used from Donnie Pease so ask him if you want more info.
I am happy with them,

I used the above setup with Ty2 also and found it an improvement over the MS02's.

I still use them outside each end of Ty3 on stands but now they're connected to a Logitech Z5500 subwoofer as part of a 2x stereo setup.
The far speakers, 8 feet away in the corner of the room are 2 of the Z5500 satellites.
Since I had them anyway I use the Bose for the close up position as I found the overall sound just a bit more appealing than using all 4 Logitech satellites.

You bought a $3000+ arranger (when new) and want to run it through sub-$270 speakers?

Surely something that COULD sound great deserves to be run through something that CAN make it sound great?

Thank you everyone.

I mainly wanted to know what kind of jacks (are needed)/cables (are used)...

Diki, I don't mind if their cheap speakers, this is only for in home use, for gigs I got way more powerful speakers...

If you are using the speakers for your home and dollars are an issue then I say Logitech Z2300 -- They do a good job. If you are looking for a fine sound for you home then studio speakers WITH A SUB would be good. I t does not make sense when you buy a Z5500 or 15” Mackie for use in a home, it would be overkill at 5 to 8 times the price.

IMHO, John C.

Trouble is, Shim, if you are preparing Registrations, SMF's and voices on those tiny speakers at home, things are going to sound VERY different when you get to the gig...

If you're really trying to get something on the cheap but the Logitech don't appeal to you, maybe just run into your aux in on your home stereo and see how that works.

I don't think it will be very good at all, but it might meet your needs for awhile. Watch your volumes!

What about a pair of $50 headphones until you can save up 300-500 bucks for a better alternative?

shim, I understand, I have my Korg pa2x in my open plan home so discrete appearance is particularly appreciated by my wife! The z2300s sound just fine for home use and look great. I have the pa2x against a wall and have mounted the 2 speakers on the wall. I use the tyros stand at home and the z2300 subwoofer sits neatly underneath the keyboard. You will need to get a y cable to convert the 1/8 stereo plug to the right and left 1/4 outputs on the keyboard. I keep the z2300 vol and bass control on the top of the subwoofer, easy to reach if I do want to adjust it.

All neatly cable tied to the stand which I leave in place so it's an easy matter to just disconnect all the cables and off you gig!

Best wishes

Graham

Diki, I hear. But will it be THAT different? Do you expect me to use my 300 watt. speakers for home use? Are the Yamaha (trms2 ?) speakers really THAT different from the others? I think it's just a marketing gimmik from yamaha to make some extra cash off you. No?

Bill, you have a point, I might just do that..!

PraiseTheLord, that's a nice setup you have!
The tip about the y cable is exactly what I wanted to hear, IF THESE CHEAPER SPEAKER SYSTEMS NEED AN ADAPTER TO PLUG IN TO THE TYROS.
