Does these PA keyboards sound exactly as the demos on http://www.korgpa.com or did they improve the sounds. I really like the demos but I am not sure if they did something to better the sounds.

Buyer Beware of all demos on any KB....
go and demo the KB for yourself.

A lot depends on how good a player you are...

Most arranger demos, unless specifically labeled as 'style demos' tend to be SMF's derived from the style output, overdubbed with REALLY good solo playing, then tweaked in the sequencer until perfect.

The thing is, how good the playing is determines how much tweaking it needs until perfect

If you are a great player, you are going to get quite close (depending on whether the part CAN be played with just one hand), if you aren't, well, YMMV...

The thing is, anything they did to improve the sound, you can too. If you are asking whether, OOTB it sounds like that, I guess that depends on whether you can PLAY like that. Until you can, it's all kind of academic, isn't it?

If you want to hear how bad it CAN sound, try Youtube... plenty of examples of that! But there are also demos (haven't really looked for the good Korg ones) for Yamaha by Vocken and Bartman that show that, if you are a great player, you can make great music live.

Korg provide by far the best sound editing tools of any arranger, so if you want to tweak the new sounds, or create some yourself, including DNC voices, you can do it. Whether they edited the tones for the demo, who knows? But if they did, so can you...

But it's one thing to have a great sound. It's another altogether to play a great solo...

Many people expect the keyboard to make great music instead of a great player. Secondly even if a KB has all the editing features in the world doesn't mean the player knows how to utilize them in a way to make great music.....so keep in mind it's a combination of these things with the emphasis on being a better all around player first that supersedes any demo no matter what quality.

From 2 years experience and playing over 50x per month, I can assure you the Korg PA800 sounds THE SAME live, as in the demos. The editing tools are terrific and easy and you can customize your sounds in a snap. I just worked out a medley of 10 Beatles songs in a matter of a few days, now that I have adequate knowledge of the OS. IMO, everything (styles, songbook, Helicon, etc) about this board is terrific, but many will disagree with me. Good luck

Thanks, Zuki. I'm sure that's exactly what Franz wanted to hear.

And welcome Franz for the SZ. Buckle up...

Thanks Zuki for the reply and cassp is right that is all I wanted to know. These demos are really good and I am impressed with the sound of the korgs. I own a Roland GW 8 and I am looking for a second keyboard. I was thinking about a Yamaha psr s900 but now I have heard the korg I think I will go for the PA 800.

Fran, I owned the Pa800 and now the Pa2xpro. I've now been using Korg since September 2007 and am happy. I hope you don't go thru what I did, I missed Yamaha and bought an s900 too. You'll be happy with the Pa800.

Frans,
The PA2XPRO I have (going on 2 years now) sounds BETTER than the demos on the Korg site. Great keyboard...
I play mine thru a set of Mackie HR824's which are great powered monitors.
A lot will depend on your speakers...remember the old days of stereo HFI??? The amp was important (enough power to prevent clipping) BUT the speakers were everything.

Same thing here. (of couse there are other variables like Master EQ settings...on the PA the master EQ is OFF by default and it needs to be on and adjusted to suit you likings, and room)

Hope it helps...Lee S.

Stay away from PA-500, demos are just demos, output levels are disappointing, after many complains against poor build PA-500, I just give up, features are great for what you paid for, lacking USB connector and a decent output(-18db)comparing to other korg keyboards. styles are far better than yammies, however those are pretty much limited in comparison with yamaha styles.

Hi,

Could you please explain what you mean with that the styles of the korg are limited in comparison with yamaha.

Frans

I think they are referring to Yamaha's third party style availability & factory styles compared to KORG in general....this has been Korg's downfall for a long time.

Hi FransN,

I know it sounds simple, but have you tried googling Korg Styles? I just did that, and it brings up loads of stuff. Have you looked at Korgforums.com?

Yes I am also a member of http://www.createsongstyles.com/forum/ they also have a lot of styles for diverse keyboards. So I think there will be enough free styles available for the korg pa series.

hi Frans,
personally, I haven't found any shortage of styles.
I've collected 200 to 300 of them in different genre's. I think they're basically from prior korg keyboards, so they work reasonably well without much tweaking required.

There's also stuff on the Korg site http://www.korgpa.com/pa_root/en/extra/bonusware.html?en

Apparently there's also styles on this German site, unfortunately I can only read 1 of about every 10 words, so bit hard to make sense of haahaa.

There is also the option of modifying existing styles, by simple mixing of style tracks to come up with a new version of an existing style, or you can export a complete style as a midifile into a pc sequencer, edit, & save.

I convert ( from other keyboards) & create (not from scratch) some of my own styles.

best wishes
Rikki
