A Roland FC-7 foot controller? It seems that many G70 players use the FC-7 or some other foot control device. Of course I have a sustain pedal and even an expression pedal if I need one.

But tell me about theis FC-7 or about any other controllers you may be using.

Cassp, I'm glad you asked that question. I finally got a couple of hours in on my G70 this past week, and was wondering the same thing.

I bought mine from Fran for my E 80 and it must have a hundred different settings for those 7 switches.
Ask Fran to tell you all about it and maybe why he sold it and that could possibly change your mind.
I think it is great for organ players used to using their feet but wonder about other people trying to use it

If you like to play two handed, they are GREAT... I can't live without mine!

My layout is (from L>R)

Var1
Var2
Var3
Var4 (with auto fill ON)
Lwr 1&2 sustain
Sustain
Leslie Fast/slow

and then it's the only thing I need. But if you prefer, use regular sustains for LWR/UPR, and have Bass Inv, or Chord Hold, or any of a variety of things instead. But I prefer to NOT have Start/Stop or Break down there, just in case of an accidental miss-hit turning into a show-stopper!

It's honestly amazing how much better your timing and playing gets, when you don't have to take your hands off the chords and notes just to trigger a variation change or fill! Keep playing, and let your feet do the walking...

A must have, IMO. And as Bebop says, if you're an old-school organist, it feels very natural tucked away under your left foot.

I only wish Roland would produce it without the currently labelling ("Fill to original", "Fill to variation", etc) which is at least a couple of generations out of date. It's no big deal, as you can assign any of dozens of functions to any one of the switches without restriction, but it bugs me a little.

Great gear for gigging, though. So flexible and useful in live performance. I'm always suprised other manufacturers haven't flocked to copy the concept.

What about the midi controllers like the Roland FC-100, 200 and now 300? Would they work like an FC-7 but thru midi? Other companies have midi foot controllers, would they be usable with the G-70 or other keyboards?

One reason I got rid of the G-70 was the foot controller. I'm so used to the 13 note Ketron that I couldn't imagine getting by with 7 pedals.

I've not tried it personally, but the codes for much of the arranger's basic operation are in the MIDI parameter chart. I suppose, with a combination of FC-7 AND a MIDI foot controller, you could get more than the seven options the FC-7 allow.

One thing I wish Roland WOULD change though, is that the FC-7 assignments are global, per UPS (whole memory load), whereas the normal footswitch assignments are per UPG (registration). This is something that Roland could easily rectify on the next model, and stretch more use out of the basic seven switch FC-7.
