The Tyros 3

Part One / The Basics.

Yamaha`s new Tyros 3 is a very good and complex arranger. To call it just an ordinary keyboard would be a gross understatement.

It as a "foot-print" of 36" X 12" , very small when compared to the T-2 , and that is great for people that want to use a small desk or the like to place it on.

The weight is about 35 lb`s and is very easily handled by 2 indentations on each side of the keyboard.

If you are going to be placing the Tyros in front of a wall you will need at least 3" from the music rack brackets to make room for the music rack and Yamaha speakers , should you decide to use the TRS-MS02 speaker system.

The "power button" is now located in the rear , just to the left of the music rack.

The front panel lay out is very clean and well thought out , there are 9 sliders , one of which is assignable.

All the buttons are plastic and have a very positive feel to them and the sliders for short throw , but very smooth and tight.

The large LCD screen is very bright , and is viewable from a very wide angle , I would say about 170 degrees. It is adjustable , but not motorized , it unlatches from the rear and tilts forward. This come in very handy , but your viewing angle will depend on your back lighting due to the glossy surface of the panel and the panel surround.

The control surfaces are top notch in my book , you will find the key-bed is very tight and true for very positive and expressive playing and the pitch-bend and modulation wheels are equally smooth and responsive. They should be , this keyboard uses the FSX key-bed and wheels straight from the Motif XS series.

Part 2 / The Sounds , will follow.

Take care ,

Gary 

Gary,
I don't mean to dispute what you are saying since I won't even have mine until Friday, but I'm confused by the "foot-print of 36" X 12" very small when compared to the T-2". I'm in a small room and was hoping to find it a bit smaller than the T2 but everything I've looked at including the PDF manual says it's almost the same size at 44.9" W and 17.7" D. Are you talking the distance between the rubber feet on the bottom? Just wondering, since I'm trying to figure out how I want to arrange stuff in my room before it gets delivered.

The Tyros3 dimensions are as follows:
(W) 44.88" x (D)17.71" x (H) 5.62"

Roughly the same size as the T2 which is:

44.8" x 17.7" x 5.4" W x D x H

The Tyros3 weighs 33 lbs. whereas the T2 weighs 32 lbs. The T3 is one pound heavier probably because it has a slightly "higher" profile i.e. 5.62" vs. 5.4" for the T2.

Best,
Mike

Lee is correct on the length and width specs. 44.88 inches long is what it says at Yamaha's website. The weight is 33.07 pounds. That puts it at 5 inches longer than my PSR-3000 and 9 pounds heavier. Add to the 33.07 pounds another four to six pounds for a padded soft-case and you're looking at lugging around nearly 40 pounds. Damned glad I have a Rock & Roller cart.

Cheers,

Gary

Thanks, Mike. That's what I was thinking, I won't gain any extra space in here.

Hi Lee ,

Sorry for not stating it correctly , the 36 X 12 foot print refers to the rubber feet on the bottom of the T-3.

The rubber feet on the T-2 were spaced further apart.

The feet are set in , more like the Motif`s .

Take care,

Gary 

PS: Working on Pt 2 !! , but I have to play it to review it !!!

Thanks to all that replied about the dimensions. Now that I know it is 1/4" thicker I can get a head start because I am going to have to move a shelf up.

And Gary, I'm looking forward to part 2 also!
