The Tyros 3
Part One / The Basics.
Yamaha`s new Tyros 3 is a very good and complex arranger. To call it just an ordinary keyboard would be a gross understatement.
It as a "foot-print" of 36" X 12" , very small when compared to the T-2 , and that is great for people that want to use a small desk or the like to place it on.
The weight is about 35 lb`s and is very easily handled by 2 indentations on each side of the keyboard.
If you are going to be placing the Tyros in front of a wall you will need at least 3" from the music rack brackets to make room for the music rack and Yamaha speakers , should you decide to use the TRS-MS02 speaker system.
The "power button" is now located in the rear , just to the left of the music rack.
The front panel lay out is very clean and well thought out , there are 9 sliders , one of which is assignable.
All the buttons are plastic and have a very positive feel to them and the sliders for short throw , but very smooth and tight.
The large LCD screen is very bright , and is viewable from a very wide angle , I would say about 170 degrees. It is adjustable , but not motorized , it unlatches from the rear and tilts forward. This come in very handy , but your viewing angle will depend on your back lighting due to the glossy surface of the panel and the panel surround.
The control surfaces are top notch in my book , you will find the key-bed is very tight and true for very positive and expressive playing and the pitch-bend and modulation wheels are equally smooth and responsive. They should be , this keyboard uses the FSX key-bed and wheels straight from the Motif XS series.
Part 2 / The Sounds , will follow.
Take care ,
Gary
