Every wonder why people here only talk about music & never post anything
I think you've answered your own question.

So you assume people will only post to get standing ovations? Weird. I would think it helps you more to get comments that would help you improve.

Maybe my tone in this case was "harsh", but I just didn't think it was good. I could have just said "Hey that wasn't good", instead I told Manny what I think could be improved.

But I guess I should lie and tell Manny what a world-class performance this was? That, or just shut up?

I'll answer that question myself too.

How many of us in our younger more stupid days "smoked" the green grass of home?

I didn't hear that at all. As if you never knew what you were telling with this song.

And while I'm being the negative pain in the butt already, I'd like to add that you should be careful not to get too far ahead. Elvis' timing was legendary, and just singing the words 2/4 of a bar too early doesn't make it right.

Burkels - I think what came across, to use your word, harsh was the declarative nature of your comments.

All of this feedback is pure opinion. I may agree with your comments, or I may not - but you could've basically expressed exactly the thoughts in a slightly nicer way.

You can be as dramatic as you wish, or as you say, you could also lie and write things you don't mean or you could just shut-up...all of which seems a little silly, when just choosing a slightly different tone would probably make all this sideshow stuff go by the wayside...

Cheers

It may be a good idea for some people in this forum to keep in mind that not all members have English as a native tongue. It might be a good idea to keep that in mind if you think someone had a bad choice of words. It may be a good idea to take into consideration that not all of us can express themselves in English the way you would do yourself. My "tone of voice" is for a great part defined by the knowledge I have of the language. Sometimes that's too formal, sometimes too 'direct', I may even get it "just right" every now and then.

Just like I don't expect foreigners to speak Dutch in all its nuances fluently, I'd like to be "cut the same slack" here as a non-English forum member.

Written language is "dangerous" enough already, allowing for mis-interpretation of words, meanings... if you add "lost in translation"-meanings to that, you get misunderstood quite easily.

Well maybe I could not. :-)
