Eddie, our mutual hero, Delbert McClinton, came to see me tonight. Well, o.k., he didn't come to see me, but he came to eat dinner, and HAD to see me.
He was in the main dining room, through a walkway from me, but thanks to the Bose, the sound carries very well into there. I did a couple of his songs, and he and his band got up from their meal and walked in to listen.
They said it sounded so good they had to come see the band. I think they were quite surprised to see one person.
Later on I talked with him for a few minutes and he was very gracious and down-to-earth. He is in town for the James Burton Guitar Festival this weekend. Maybe I can go Sunday, but have to work tomorrow night.
No DNJ, I didn't get a picture. It just didn't seem right to ask.
Later,
DonM

No, and we didn't exchange autographs, except he did sign the credit card slip. He treated me as a co-worker, despite his stature in the business, and I wasn't about to regress to the position of a fan, even though I am one!

DELBERT IN THE HOUSE????

I don't know how I would have handled that.

Don, I hope you will get a chance to see some of his show...now that he has seen some of yours. And...I bet he was impressed. I know I was.

Did he ask about me???? Huh????

Who's Delbert McClinton? Is he as good as Dexter Gordon or Sonny Rollins?
Ha! Ha! How's it going Don? Tell Susan hello and the young men too?

Hi Boo, glad to see you are still kickin'.
You would love Delbert's music! Tell Penny to come see me, since you won't.

I saw the show. It was fabulous. I have been to every James Burton Guitar Festival that they have had and each one has been sensational. Shreveport is truly lucky to have such a concert here every year or so.

Every single act was just jaw-dropping. Not only do you see guitar gods of all time, what strikes me is how well these guys sing. Most of them are in their sixties. The guy from Grand Funk Railroad, Mark Farner I think is his name, woah, amazing pipes. All of them sang great and played great. Sound overall was really good.

Of course, Delbert was great, as usual.

Charlie McCoy, the harmonica dude, I will never forget that performance. Same for Phil Keaggy. Some of them, like Doyle Dykes, I have seen before and they were as good as ever. As in, beyond belief.

Me and my date... $160 for two great seats in the house that made Hank and Elvis... four hours of music... worth it.

Great! I'm a big fan of Delbert's and I've never seen him play guitar. That 12 minutes was worth it. I have always thought that "Squeeze Me In" is such a well-written song.

The guy from Grand Funk ate with us also, but I didn't introduce myself. I'm jealous, Bill!
Wish I coulda seen the show. BTW, I got a new bass boat, so give me a call!
