I record direct into a Tascam dp-01 hard disk recorder from a box amp...

Not ready for multi-tracking yet...

Is Audacity a program I might find useful to polish up my recordings?

Thanks-

I personally record using programs on my PC like
Acid Pro,
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/product.asp?pid=383

Adobe Audition,
http://www.adobe.com/products/audition/

Mixcraft 4...
http://www.acoustica.com/mixcraft/

at the very least I do Two Tracks, one for stereo music, the other to do my vocals separately on top of that which allows better editing & concentrating on each track.

BTW why are you going into a box amp first versus Direct into the recorder, & monitor thru headphones?

Donny-

I route through the box mixer to pick up the effects, as well as the harmonizer's signal. I'm familiar with how these units work and wouldn't know where to begin to apply effects after the recording was finished. In keeping with my desire to not get entrenched in "recording" this seems to be the most efficient way...

I've looked at the screenshots of some of the audio mixing programs and honestly I have no clue as to what I'm looking at. It appears to be pretty complicated...

Bill if you want to do quality recording ...I would suggest you read up on it....there are many places you can find information on this .....eg:

I don't use it much - I'm a midi person really - but for a freebie Audacity is far better than it has any right to be, and is fairly easy to use. However the documentation is rudimentary and I find myself using Google as a supplimentary help engine.

It is usually very stable on my Athlon 3200xp + Windows XP + Soundblaster Audigy Platinum setup, but it does seem picky about effects plug-ins. There are some provided with the package and they are very stable. I have some other "VST" plug-in effects on my PC (sourced from Cakewalk Sonar 2 and Sony Vegas 9 if that's any help) which sometime cause crashes, so I tend to save before using anything "non native".

Side issue for those using Audigy's, I've been using Creative's drivers for the Audigy for about a year, and they are very stable. Previously I was using the "kx" drivers because Creative's drivers (including those provided in the box with the card) were total, freeze-up-the-pc disasters!

Bill: I used Audacity to do multitrack recording. While I do nothing fancy I find Audacity has the features I need to create quality projects. I typical do some line-level balancing between sources and apply various effects.
