Thank you

On the old PA1x they had a setting "BEST GM SOUND", and what this did was to select an appropriate sound from the soundset to play the GM file gave a good result, but not as good as editing the file and replacing with higer bank sounds/insert effects.

For some reason they have dropped this from the current PA series, but I think instead they have done what Yamaha have done on the Motif series, in that they have really tweaked the GM soundbank to be as good as it can, even to the point of adding additional samples.

If you load in a SMF that has been sequenced properly, it will sound fine on you PA800, and there is not much you can do, (without editing the file itself) apart from modifying system effects.

you are very much rigth, the SMF play pretty good without having to assign other sounds...

when I transpose the SMF many steps high or down of course the SMF start to sound moody.
I use to have a Solton and that keyboard had a button that would automatically transpose the SMF and reconfigure them in a way that even if I would go down or up 7 or 8 steps the SMF would play well. Do you know if there is any feature like that on the pa 800?

Marco, I don't do any transposing on my PA2x, as I set up any midis I use on an external sequencer, so consequently I have not had to find a tool specific to your question.

As far as I know there is not, but perhaps someone who uses transpose a lot could give you a more definitve answer..And might I suggest you head over to the Korg Forums, where they are ALL Korg users and you will get more in depth answers??
