Hey Donnie-

I've had both...

I used to have Sirius and switched over to XM about a year ago or so.

They are rather comparable, IMO...I preferred the sports/talk programming that XM offered, which is the only reason I switched.

Also, XM and Sirius have merged and will be doing business going forward as XM...

I'd encourage you to purchase the XM product to ensure you don't have any compatability issues down the road.

I have XM in my car, my office and my bedroom...Its pretty addicting and well worth the $20/mo. I pay for it...

Bill ......I just read about the merger & thanx for the review.....when is this merger going to take place? I love NFL football starting soon, baseball & Howard stern & comic shows, talk, besides the music...so if they merge whats the difference down the road?I thought it was less like $12.95 per month?

The merger has been "in the works" for several months, I don't know of an official merge date or anything...

I based my recommendation on the hunch that if you went with XM, you won't be left out in the lurch down the road equipment wise.

I think the fees have gone up...I was paying $17.52 a month, then it increased to 19.94 to be able to have two different receivers on my account.

Sirius' website offers a monthly fee for a single unit at $12.95...add $6.99 for additional units...

Yeah, I move my car unit inside to my office quite often. I bought a home docking station so I could run it through my office stereo...

The one upstairs in my bedroom never moves...it also has its own docking station.

BTW, all satellite radios that you self install come with a antenna...They need to have a fairly clear shot at the southwest sky for optimal reception.

Hey Donny...
If the crapper should ever aggravate you, where would you chuck it?

Donny, I've got XM in both wife's car and my SUV. Been enjoying it for the last 3 years. I keep thinking I'm going to cancel, not because I'm dissatisfied, but because I find myself using my iPod more than XM. But I can't seem to give up Ch 73 that features music The Great American Songbook. Much of the time it's hosted by Jonathan Schwartz, listening to him is an education itself. There's dozens and dozens of other great stations as well.

Donny I've had sirius for over 3 years now and I wouldn't be without it. It has stations for every decade, Siriusly Sinatra, Radio Margaritaville, an Elvis station, great comedy stations, all the news and sports you'd ever want and trafic and weather for all the major cities. I absolutely love it.

Good luck with it,

Joe

The newest thing to come down the pipe is a thing called HD Radio. High Definition Radio is a "FREE" service, the only requirement being you have to get a radio that is capable of receiving the HD Radio signal. I'm not sure if the service is available back East yet or not. >> You can always move to California if it isn't.

Best,
Mike

Personally, I never liked the sound of sattellite radio when I heard it in people's cars. As a Direct TV subscriber, i used to get the XM music channels, which sounded good. But when listening through the actual XM radios in a car, it always sounds to me like an mp3 encoded at about 96 KBPS. That grainy texture in the lows, bubbly texture in the highs, type of sound. I wish they could use a bit more bandwidth or something.
