I am tempted to buy a Tyros 2 (p/x for my G70) - because of the the registick plus / and total transformation theatre regs that are available

(But don't want to spend a fortune as will probably end up buying a Tyros 3 eventually)

I have approched one popular northern UK dealer who has quoted £1099 for a used Tyros 2 which seems OTT i was thinking more around the £400 mark for a p/x to a used Tyros 2 - any UK dealers who can do this let me know please

If not ... i'll hold on to G70 (which is in excellent condition HUO) as otherwise it is an excellent keyboard (just lacks the organ setups provided by the Tyros add ons)

PS: Does the Tyros allow you to store regs on USB external storage devices (the G70 has 50MB of flash space which has been more than enough)

Thanks

T2 has a Hd /2 USB ports so you can store more registrations then you and your whole town would ever use.

You seem to be into Organ....& you would lose the G70 drawbars in a Trade like this & have to use the virtual ones are you comfortable with that.

Hi DNJ - 5 minutes after posting - a reply - that's fassst ...

To be honest there are several things i don't use - including drawbars - prefer the preset (stock) drawbar type organs - which are great

(Don't use harmonizer)

RE: External storage - good that can use USB storage (to be honest i don't see much point in hard drives as USB is faster quiter and proably more reliable - no moving parts) - PS: good to see the latest organs AT800/Apollo/Stagea etc.. have eventually got past the floppy disk drives as the only storage media (the organ world is catching up with the keyboards atlast)

I have been looking over the organs - Yama stageas / D Decks - the mini stage a is CHEAAAPP (amazingly so) but doesn't (i don't think) excel in theatre organ samples (i'm hard to please!)

The only organs that have theatre / auto styles and USB storage as well as far i can work out (from googling) is the latest ateliers AT800 etc £10K ?), the Wersi Apollo with theatre/sacral voice packs (£6000?) But i'm a miser when it comes to parting with cash - anything over a few K and i would want a lifetime warranty!

PS the video is great (although i wish they would ercord directly from the organ)

I also play pop music to me an organ should be able to do all these things "at the touch of a button" - the stageas i think are good for rock music / contemporary but i woould need to buy a sound expander to play pipe organs

The latest Rolands and maybe Apollos are getting close to being this versatile ...

True DNJ - but when it comes to parting with hard earned cash my alter ego kicks in - and i think about my pension twenty years down the road

Also practically speaking if i live that long i will probably get bored with whatever i buy so would rather keep reserve for the next models in the years to come ...

Having said that i might follow your way of thinking and blow it all for the short term fun and games ...

Twenty years down the road......?

I'd rather live for the moment its more fun & exciting.....look at pictures of yourself twenty years ago & you will see how fast life goes by..........

Paul Anka's Song "The TImes Of Your Life"
come to mind every time I perform it on stage.

Yes true - the last twenty years have gone all too quickly!

Have got better deal £600 for p/x - it pays to shop around , will see if i can squeeze further but it looks like a Tyros 2 is on the cards (if i can get it under warranty)

Hi Tony
They are 2 different kinds of boards
Sounds:
The Yamaha has the more realistic voices, but is stifled by its sound system, which gives a rounded closed in CD type of sound, whereas the G70 voices while not as accurate, have a much more live sound, which depending on what you are looking for may sound more like Real instruments, then the more accurate Yamaha. (Make sure you compare the 2 before deciding to change)
Styles:
The Yamaha gives you everything including the kitchen sink, whereas the G70 allows you to choose your own kitchen, and so again it is down to which you personally prefer. (Again make sure you compare the 2 before deciding to change)
Key Feel
The Yamaha is much lighter then the G70 and so does not suit everybody, and of course vice-versa. (Not forgetting 76 & 61 notes)
Consider the above carefully before deciding to change
Hope this helps

Bill

Thanks Abacus for your input - having everything including the kitchen sink is more me , ... a lot of the appeal too is the wider choice of styles and IDC , the G70 has served me well (it's the only keyboard i actually kept for more than a year - over 3 now!)

However ... I thought the dealer was offering me an exchange for £600 , but having chatted he was offering £600 for my keyboard leaving £1800 for a new tyros

(Although i prefer the specs of the Tyros 2 , the Roland is in the same league and not worth that kind of money - so i'll just be patient and wait for the Tyros 3 or G80)

The p/x deals seem to be v. poor these days!

Cheers

Dave, Partial exchange--we call it trade-in in the States.
V poor, equals very poor. The same as in the states!

Tony, if you haven't got it already, get the Session Manager software from the Roland-arranger.com site.

It blows Roland's Database Manager software out of the water, and adds radical new features to your G70, like Custom Tone storage, and batch copy of UPG parameters and OTS settings to other registrations.

It is a must have (unless you are on a Mac )

Oh, and chas... I may have only been over here for 27 years, but I always thought it was 'harbor' over here

I can't tell you how annoying it is for my spell-checker to constantly correct my 'correct' English, and keep telling me I should go to the theater, and not the 'theatre' in the 'centre' of our 'colourful' town, to 'practise' the 'defence' of my 'modelling' career

I know, I could set it to UK English, but then all my American brothers would keep going "Look at the dumb-ass... can't even spell 'ass''

Arses....

It is. Have you been hitting the sauce again. I think something slipped by you. Anyway, Tony got it. And stop reading my posts when you've got a hangover .

Whoa, Diki. It's me that's been hitting the sauce. I didn't even catch my spelling error. Now I feel like an idiot. Anyway, there's a lesson there. Whenever you're kidding someone, make sure the joke isn't on you.

Hi Diki,
Thanks for that - no i haven't got the session manager - even more fun to be had then! (the USB extension leads arrived next day - Royal mail excelled! have daisy chained 2 together = 30ft to G70 downstairs the DB manager works great - unfortunately it was delivered early this morning and in eagerness i tried it out whilst half asleep and exported an old DB to G70 and overwrote tons of UPGs! ... back to almost a blank canvass - but understand how to use it now - i hope!)
