I bought an E50 from George Kaye 2 weeks ago. I have been working with it every day to try and like it. Well here is what a do like first of all I love the size and weight( main reason for buying this board).I like the operating system and navigation. I like the drum sounds alot. The pianos are the best sounds I like in this board. The saxes and brass and guitars are ok but I am so used to those sounds on my Tyros 2 it's hard for me to adjust to the way these sound. Some of the styles are very good some I don't like.
Here is what I don't like about it. The KEYS! on this board are way to light for my touch. I tried my best to get used to these keys but there is no way I will be happy with them. I am selling this on ebay mainly because of the keys not the sounds or the operating system.

Before I let it go I am recording with it to rember what the roland sound is like and to do comparison withmy other boards.

So here is the example of the E50 Classic piano recording of the purgatory piano test midi file. I also recorded it on another keyboard I have for comparison but I won't tell you which one it is I want to see if anyone can reconize it. I'll call it Mistery piano for now.

I edited this post tocorrect the name of the pianosound for the E50 which the Classic Piano n ot concert. Conert piano is the name of the sound for the mistery keyboard.

Well Ray, I must say the E-50 piano is not bad...actually pretty darn good...seems fairly even throughout it's range.

I can't even remotely guess the identity of the "Mystery Piano".

I need/prefer a weighted hammer action when I play solo piano....playing piano on an light action arranger is fine by me when I am using auto-accompaniment.

From knowing what the PCreek file sounds like on my G70, I'd suggest adding 5 or so (or to taste) to the Cutoff parameter on the E50 sound... You won't hear much difference when 'spanked', but it sure helps brighten up the low velocities just a bit more...

I have no idea why Roland decided to darken the pianos in the E80/60/50 compared to the same piano in the G70. To my ears, the G70 sounds pretty much identical to the FantomX 'Ultimate Grand' patch, still considered one of the best ROM pianos around.

They all sound roughly the same when hit hard (or Key Touch is set to LOW), but I think I really DO hear them get darker at lower velocities... in fact, just a tad TOO dark for me.

What IS that other piano? An older Korg stage piano? An old RD? It's too fat for a Yamaha, isn't it (and quirky)...?

That piano sounds remarkably good, especially considering the price range of the E50.

Are you going to send it to Purgatory Creek? It would be a great new addition.

I agree Diki, Yamaha's have that clean compressed(but not thin) sound and non of the quirkyness of this sample.

I was going to guess PA-800, but it is too fat for that one as well...could be early RD, or maybe the EP-7/9 series?

The decay is short like the EP series.

Ian thanx for the morning laugh hahahahhah......Korg is far and away producing right now the best arrangers on the market hands down......you Nay Sayers have to face the truth sooner or l8tr.

until people hear start posting some work instead of just constantly bickering procrastinating about sounds & styles & this is better then that over & over again which personally is getting so old and boring leading me to believe that they think that is above their playing ability which is really the culprit.....& is definitly what they should be learning how to do better.....talk is cheap, I want to hear people play arrangers period.
