I had auditioned the SP500 extensively when I got my Roland FP-5. I did like the sounds of the SP500 alot and found the action the to be OK too. However, I found that some of the elements of the SP500 styles could not be turned off. As example, the finger snap on the jazz swing was very bothersome. For my application, at the time, the FP-5 with the built-in speakers was a better choice to the superior display of the SP500. It was a tough choice but for me the FP-5 won out.

Thank you RobertG for the info!! Very kind of you.
The hammer action it was always my favorite, and these boards that can combine both piano and arranger features are allways in my mind

I saw someone at our church play a Korg SP500 and it looked like he was playing piano in full keyboard mode, but a synth pad was playing held chords in the background. How'd he do that?

Probably full keyboard chord recognition with a style with everything turned off except for the synth pad.
