My wife keeps bugging me on this since we were planning to name our soon to be born baby boy, Dante as his first name. Any bad connotations, etc ? I know some of the synthzoners are Italians. Thanks for any responses.

"Dante" literally is the present participle of the verb "dare", which means "to give", so "Dante" could be translated as "The one who gives" or "He who gives".
They say that the destiny of a person lies in his name, if chosen properly...

For some reason, we both keep getting this word Dante from paper, restaurants almost on a daily basis whereas before we probably just does not notice it. Kind of freaky. I was the one who had that idea since we had a great mental block choosing the name of the baby. But I don't want a name that has bad connotations in any way.

Our first baby who is now 2 yrs old, we also had similar strange experiences. Too freaky to tell here - it was quite an eye opener and I could not say it was a coincidence.

here in Italy the name DANTE has no bad connotations at all. On the other name, it is a name strictly linked with the most famous medioeval Italian poet "Dante Alighieri", writer of the "La Divina Commedia". The name is not commonly used in Italy nowadays, and it is mainly adopted by parents in the Tuscany (Florence) region.

Hope this is of help.

I do not want to discourage you, but in most european countries the name Dante is associated with Dante's Inferno.

You can read all about it below.
