In another thread, The Pro recommended the yamaha MS202II powered monitors. As I searched Yamahas website, I noticed they now manufacture 2 powered speakers, the MS 300 and 400. They weren't listed a few months ago. Along the Mackie/EV/EON lines. has anyone test driven these beasts? they aren't listed with musicians friend or other internet music stores yet. Looking for input and reviews if anyone knows. Thanks Brian

I have heard them. They sound great, as most Yamaha gear does, but they are quite heavy.
I "a-b" tested them besides Peavey's powered speakers, though, and I though the Peaveys sounded better. And they are made in Meridian, MS. USA.! Oh, and the Peaveys are very heavy too.
In my opinion the Peaveys were right up there with the Mackies as far as sounding great.
I've only heard the Peaveys, Mackies, Yamahas and JBL EONS. And that's about the order I would rate them on sound alone. The EONS are lighter and easier to carry and they do sound good. They are the only ones I've owned.

HI: B2
I have had the Yamaha MS400 powered speakers since
August 2001, they came out in June or July of 2001.
I have got around 1200 hrs. on them & have had no trouble
with them at all. And I do crank them up, lot's of volume,
the nick-knack stuff the wife has falls off the wall's & the stuff
in the hutch keeps moving around.
They are 400 watt output (300 low freq. 100 hi freq.)
They have 15" woofer, which I like.
They have good bass,& mid range, hi range is sharp &
crystal clear.
They have Line In / Out XLR & 1/4"
Mic In XLR
Line Volume Control
Mic Volume Control
Master Volume Control
And 2 Band EQ
They weight around 45lbs. but are easy to carry, they have
2 recessed handles 1 on each side.
And the heat sink on the back does NOT get hot.

I had FBT Maxx4a first they were good also but they had 12" woofer
& I started to have trouble with one of them after only 6 month's.
They did have more bass but less mid range then the Yamaha's,
I had the EQ of the keyboard setup for use with the FBT's & when
I got the Yamaha MS400's I had to turn up the LF, EQ for the bass
in the keyboard
to get the same sound, but I still have plenty LF to go if I want, but
no need.

So far I'm very happy with them.
Enjoying the 9000 PRO

Anybody ever try Yamaha MSP5s? They're not big enough for large gig's, but they're the loudest little speakers I've ever seen and they sound fantastic.

Thanks for the responses:
Don, I saw the powered peavy's at a local music store for the first time the other day...was wondering how they compared.

Denny, I swear I never saw these things when I was looking around for speakers. I search the Yamaha website alot too...How come they're not advertised much? or at all...
do they still sell them?...

Midnite. I have heard the MSp5's. In fact, guitar center in manchester CT uses them on many of the floor keyboard demos as monitors...They do sound great!

They still sell them.
I think the MS300 just came out this year,
but the MS400 was last year.
Synthplanet has both of them.
They also make MS500 (I think it's called)
it's a 500 watt subwoofer.
