SOLUTION TO 61/76 CONTROVERSY???: why don't we stop fighting, just compromise and SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE, guys?????????? let's see..a 15 key differential- split in half means we add 7.5 keys- making for a new arranger kb standard: 68.5 keys!!!!!! BRILLIANT! er, ooops..1/2 a key won't work. so we have to decide on 68 or 69 keys. I think everyone should chime in here on which they think is better..I have always been partial to 69, because it implies equal pleasure at both ends of the keyboard...but of course more conservative-minded players would favor the 68 (which is a bit lighter as well, and might fit more easily in Uncle Dave's case). ANYONE? (don't forget to duck)........ (yes I did hijack this post from my own post on the "biggie" thread, but if we can agree on the new standard the manufacturers will love it-- will make all the 61's and 76's obsolete and then maybe they will agree to give us all the other stuff we want in exchange...ya think?)

Mo...this is a fine post.

Rather than split the difference, I think there should be only two types of keyboards....61 or 88.

76 notes are in that murky region where there aren't really a portable keyboard and they don't quite cut it as a piano.

I mean, if your gonna lug around 45 or 50 lbs, it may as well have the full range of keys.

A 76 note"anything" doesn't sell in my area...especially here in Cape Breton where there is a lot of fiddle music.

The piano players need those low notes for the octave basslines.

Jazz and classical players want the same thing...a real piano keyboard...88 notes.

I know you like 69, it's a nice number, it even looks the same upside down, but so does 88...and it smacks of much more professionalism.

Us 61 note wimps will carry on as before.

Given a choice of menu I would go for the soixante-neuf. [Scott's picture shows a thorough grasp of the subject matter]

I'm trying to imagine how long these people had to pose for this sculpture.

Wasn't 61 enough for Beethoven? (harpsichord)
I would personally prefer a few more than 61.
Not for arranger play, but for full keyboard piano playing.

Great idea. I would add 3 to the lower end (to A) and 4 to the higher end (to E).

thought we were trying to decide between 68 and 69 as a compromise from 61/76. if we are going to argue 76/88 the we have to split the difference there: 12 keys..so add 6 to the 76..and we have 82. BRILLIANT! so now we can have a choice between 82 keys and 68/69 and everyone should be happy. however, we still need to decide between 68 and 69. I was all set to vote for 69, but it has been pointed out that when turned upside down, 69 and 88 are both the same as right side up. i just realized 68 turned upside down is 89!! so.. that's even better than 88 so i'm thinking maybe 68 is better than 69, if you play it standing on your head...

Actually, 76 and a 'hot key' that plays no notes...

Still appears to be vapor-ware, though.

3 keys, eh?---reminds me of old joke:----- blues musician: plays 3 chords to 1000 people. jazz musician: plays 1000 chords to 3 people. (i really don't mind if the 3 people would just stop talking for 3 minutes!!!) Mo

Correctomondo, Diki...go to the head of the class...I was wondering if anyone was sharp enough to notice.

Unless they plan on making the next G series out of cork, (or balsa) Roland would be wise to investigate an idea like this.
