There was a problem with Vilo's post. I was going to help Vilo with the image, however he edited and fixed it while I was trying to help out.

Got Them! Tahnks again.

The only thing is that I'm not going to use them with an arranger, I'll be using them for singing,[Mic/CD player for soundtracks]

The arranger I had was the PSR2000 and I sold it, I'm saving for the PSR3000.

There were some pics of the Logi's mounted on stands.......?

Did you modified the wires on yours?

The Alesis and Z-55s will work well with a mic and cd player ...

I believe Stephenm52 had his mounted on stands ...

Yes. I, Stephenm52 and I believe Gary (as well as some others) all modified the plugs (at least those to the sub-woofer) to 1/4 inch ... some even modified the plugs into the sats ...

Vince: I use the z5500 regularly for playing out in small-medium venues and it works well. If you get it remember to use the PLII music setting.

Big lesson learned for me is the issue of speaker placement. If the rear speakers are not close enough to me I have a really hard time hearing myself play and can get out of sync with myself (if that makes sense). Moving the rear speakers closer helps.

As Gary will affirm (he has been a valuable resource in why to get these and how to optimize), the center channel speaker is responsible for most of the mid-range tones. Personally, I am considering replacing the Logictech speaker with a better speaker for just the center channel to improve the mids. I think something <=$100 used on eBay will do the trick. For the same reason stated above, I have found that I like the center channel behind me instead of next to me sitting on the sub-woofer as some other people do.

For quick setup/breakdown, I have replaced the standard spring-terminal wires that comes with the unit with RCA connectors that I wired to each speaker and made a custom breakout box that I attached to the sub-woofer. It works well. I can now setup/break down pretty fast.

Travel with the unit is good. I put nice wheels on the base unit. All of the speakers, including all associated wires for unit and my keyboard fits in one large gym bag.

For mounting the speakers on stands I have a good woodworking friend who has helped me create some custom mounts to mount the speakers individually on lightweight mic stands and even mounts to attach the speakers to my T2 just like the Yamaha speakers.

Some time in the next couple of days I will post pictures.

I like my z5500. I wish it had fewer speakers to set up. It really needs all 5.1 for the best sound. For the amount I was ready to spend I think it’s the best choice. If I had the budget I would look at the Anchor Audio that you posted on recently. One piece, with handle and wheels, and wireless, and bose-like speakers. That looks sweet. Just not ready to spend the $1,600+.

I think your plan to use it for vocals with a small mixer will be successful.

If you get it and doesn't work for you, it's Gary's fault.

I use the Logitech z5500's linked to my PC.
I take the T2 outputs into my automated desk then it's outs into my sound cards ins. They're great for listening to in the home but I wouldn't take these speakers out anywhere on a gig as they seem more geared to home/PC use.

I originally had mine mounted on a pair of mic stands. I copied Gary Diamond's design posted at teh PSR Site. I've since modified mine using Tony's design and mount them in front of the keyboard. Check your e-mail their shold be some photos there for you.

ViLo,

Sorry I didn't get to this earlier, but between gigs and sailing I havn't been spending much time on the forum.

The Z-5500 system is awesome, and the Alesis 6FX mixer is in the same category. I frequently used the Z-5500 with audiences to 125, and the Bose L1 is used for larger venues.

As for my setup, you can see the photos of it on the PSR Tutorial site by clicking the Music Tab at the top of the home page, then clicking on articles and finally projects. Scroll down to the Z-5500 setup and you can see how I put it together and transport the system.

It provides great very crisp, clear highs, gut thumping lows, and good mids. The mid-range sounds, however, can be improved dramatically by replacing the Center speaker with a larger 8-ohm speaker of 5 to 6 inches. This will also provide a bit of a volume boost as well.

The volume level of the system, is awesome, especially in the boost levels. The bost levels are found when the main volume control is advanced beyond the maximum level. This allows you to access boost levels to Boost 11, which will blow the windows out of most homes.

Additionally, the system allows for independant adjust of the individual speakers. Fronts, rears, center and sub can all be set individually for better balance.

If you are using the Alesis mixer, you can also set the mixer's EQ and effects, thereby adding richness to the overall sound quality. In my case, the EQ is managed through the PSR-3000, which has independant EQ settings for the keyboard and mic.

Hope this helps,

Gary

When you use the Z-5500 on gigs are you singing through them of just playing. Would they work for a duo with one keyboard and two singers. Playing small bars and private parties?

I use this Alesis and it'll be fine for a small setup.

I find it a hassle when trying to use monitor speakers in addition to the main outs. There's no easy way to split the output of the separate input channels.

Again this is not an issue when you are alone or just a couple. I play with 3 others, all playing AND singing.

Montana,

I used the rig with two sinbgers, and two guitars plugged into the Alesis, then fired the mixer through the keyboard's Auxiliary Input, and fired the keyboard's main outs to the Z-5500. Essentially, there were three singers, two guitars, and a keyboard, all fired through the Z-5500. This was for a private, poolside party with about 100 guests. I never had to turn the volume above Boost 7 and we rocked the place all night long.

Cheers,

Gary

I used the Sona 32-CS system for just over a year. It's a good system, relatively lightweight, but believe it not, it's not as clean and crisp and the Logitech Z-5500. Lots of bottom end, good mids, and fair highs--just not as clear as I would like.

Cheers,

Gary
