The RD700 is not as complete in the arranger area as some, but it is expandable with cards.
The SP500 is cheaper, but since it's not delivered yet - we'll have to wait and see how the feel and sound compare. The RD700 is pretty darn good in sound and action.
If you don't need bells and whistles - we're closing out the GEM real piano2's at a great price. Email me direct for a quote if you want to save some money. We have 1 or 2 left, when I last looked. It will be cheaper than then the SP500.... by ALOT.

I am also looking at the RD700 and SP500. I was leaning more towards the Roland when I discovered that there was really no way to record what youre playing unless you always have it hooked up to a computer or buy a $600 extra module that allows you to spontaneously record. If you write music at all or just want to hear how you play, the recorder in any keyboard is great. I have a RD150 which has a 2 track recorder. (I dont know Roland didnt continue that with the rd700.) I think the SP500 has three tracks that you can record on. They both have the hammer action that is heavier in the bottom keys and lighter in the top. If you like acoustic pianos thats great. I guess it just comes down to going to the store and playing on each of them. But the SP500 is cheaper. I think they have the same amount of sounds. Another thing that bugged me about the Roland RD700 is that the bottom is made out of particle board. Thats so cheap! If you want this keyboard for a long time, I dont know how the particle board will hold up. I think Im gonna get the SP500 if plays ok (feels like a piano) because I just would feel ripped off paying $1,700 for something with particle board. It seems like it would be too delicate. That Korg SP500 is sure stupid looking, but who cares....if it sounds good and plays well....you might also want to try out a Yamaha P200. Not as many sounds as the Roland, but I think it has the best 'feel' of any keyboard. And the best sampled piano sounds. But its like 70 pounds. The Korg isnt expandable in that theres no Korg specific board...but you can buy a module with the same sounds by any brand and hook it up to any midi compatible keyboard, and theyre about the same price.

I bought a Roland RD700 several months ago and have had nothing but good luck with it. The sounds are top notch, I have the studio and the Grand Piano expansion boards. The bottom is not cheap particle board but seems to be some kind of composite board. Seems so far to be plenty rugged enough to do the job. I think it's a weight saving feature. It's probably the lightest of any comparable stage piano. The P200 is rugged, extremely heavy and has a very limited set of sounds. Why Yamaha keeps that built in amp and speakers I have no idea. It's a stage piano, not a workstation or home piano. Anyway, the RD700 is not meant to be an arranger or workstation, I'm buying a PA80 to cover that end. If you're looking for a super stage piano, the RD will fill the bill, and at a manageable weight.
