Hi guys, I have submitted one of my songs for a collection of recordings made on an Akai DPS recorder.(Akai Dps users are called "Deepsters" and this collection is called either "Deepsing" or "Deeper IV",as it is the fourth collection of DPS recordings.) You will have to download the mp3. Other than the guitar and vocal, everything else that you hear is my Korg is40. The link is: www.sultrix.com.au/deeperIV.html
My song is on disc 2, song 10 "Walking In The Night" by Bill Eckles.

Bill, OUTSTANDING recording and crystal clear quality as well. VERY nice haunting melody, with an excellent guitar part.

Thanks Terry, I know that you have been putting your work in the public eye for a long time now,but this was a first for me. Scary but fun.

Bill, I love your song! The arranger part (style and electric piano comping) is very fitting, but to me the best parts are your voice and your guitar (a Stratocaster?) I would say that you are first and foremost a guitar player, but you play very well also your keyboard.
May we have more, please?

Terry , I LOVE my Akai! I have the DPS16, which is sadly discontinued, but I got a great closeout deal of $899. The replacement DPS24 is very sweet but still pricey at this time. One of the great things about the Akai is the wonderful online Yahoo! support group, which put together these collections. The members there are much like what you find here at SynthZone--- friendly, helpful, and fun.
Please do check out the other recordings, there is a lot of talent there. I reccomend "Kangaroo Boy" by Chris Hales and "I'll Always Want You" by Paul Rayfield and Rob Cain.

Bill, had a listen to both of the tunes you suggested....didn't care much for Kagaroo Boy, but loved I'll always want you. I keep getting more impressed by the clarity of the recordings on the Akai. That may be my next recorder. How is it for user friendliness?

Hi Terry,

You wrote :That may be my next recorder. How is it for user friendliness?

Why would you change ? I thing you have a Yamaha AW4416, one of the best digital recorder .
I just read a report in Keyboards Home Studio (french magazine) over Akai DPS 24 and the conclusion was :

Sound quality : 18/20
Ergonomy : 13/20
Quality rice : 15/20

If you want the total report, let's say it !

Greetings,

JJ

Hi Bill,

Very good work...I love especially the simplicity and the clarity in this recording.
BTW, which pedal or effect are you using with your guitar ? It was and it is one of the favourites registrations of Hank Marvin , "The Shadows".

Greetings,

JJ

JJ, I love the AW, it is a great recorder, but when it breaks if ever, then I will look at all the options available for a replacement. On the cuts I heard from the Akai, the clarity is consistent on the cuts and excellent.

Bill, I went throught and at least listened to bits of every cut on your collaborative cds.
Of course I liked yours as I already mentioned, here's the other cuts that I liked:
Start Again, Bulletproof Friend, Today, I'll Always Want You, Feeling Great is Optional, Packet Of Air, and sort of liked, Days Of Grace.

I thought Start Again was probably the best for my tastes, all around. Good music, vocals, style and mix.

I thought as an overall impression of both cds they were all very good just a matter of taste in genres.

Something I did notice probably worth a mention on your Akai forum, on a half dozen or so of the cuts the mix of the vocals was a bit too far back and I thought needed to be brought up front more.

The other thing I found rather interesting is that is seems like most all the players are guitar players.

Great work all around. Thanks for sharing this with me.

Andrea, thanks for giving my tune a listen. I have enjoyed many of your recordings and it is fun to be on the other side for a change. My guitar is made by Reverend, Have you ever heard of them in Italy? I have owned Gibson 335, mid-60s' Stratocaster, and many others, and I love my Reverend Spy more than any of the others. On first glance some think it is an inexpensive Danelectro, but it is a high quality instrument that plays like a dream.
As far as playing the keyboard goes, I take guitar chords, figure out the voicing, play chords with my left hand and select variations and fills with my right hand. My Korg is40 does the rest! Thanks again for your kind words.

JJ, the guitar effect is the "Delay/Swell" effect on my POD. Have not heard Hank Marvin or "The Shadows".

"The Shadows": Apache, Walk don't run, Wipout. They played with Cliff Richards as well.

Starkeeper, i don't know "Apache" but "Walk Don't Run" is The Ventures and "Wipeout" is The Sufaries. This is the music that made me want to play guitar, and it still sounds cool today!
