Hi!
I presently own a PSR-2100 and want to upgrade soon to a Tyros. I recently happened to browse thru the technics website and the KN-7000 looked very interesting as well. I have to makke a choice now between the Tyros and the KN-7000. Pls help me make a proper decision.
Secondly, I wanted to know from the experienced players out there some good songs sung for Birthdays. Also if you could give me some tips on birthday gigs like what works and what doesnt..what with your rich experience playing at such ocasions..!

Thanx
Sunny

Go for Tyros.
Technics has stopped making keyboards altogether. For that reason you could try to get a KN7000 for a very low price. But already you see messages on the forum like: "I've contacted Technote with regard KN7000 Expansion boards, and unfortunately they have no more and cannot re-stock!

There was a long discussion on this forum about this problem, unfortunately it was lost when this site crashed.

You will not need an expansion board for the KN7000. From what I've learned, its not an "Oh my God" difference of the expansion board than what you already have. I would'nt let that sway you from the KN7000. However, Technics, as stated, is not producing any more Keyboards.

I own the 7000 and a PA-50. I have demoed the Tyros and the new PSR 3000.

The 7000 gives you more voices (sounds) and styles with better quality. The Tyros did not move me or excite me like the 7000.

Although a different approach to an arranger Keyboard, the PA1X is the only other unit, I feel that offers the sound quality and excitement that the 7000 has.

Just my opinion, a function of this forum.

Thank you,

Mark

..... thus, sunster, try them out, at least all three of them: Tyros, KN7000 en Korg Pa1X and see what excites you!

The BEST advice is to try them both yourself and see which one most meets YOUR needs ...

One of the key reasons why I purchased a Tyros other than the superior voices is the overwhelming support and user community for the Tyros. Styles, tools, midi files, user forums, equipment, etc.etc. Yamaha has surrounded their keyboards with an excellent support network which can't be beat.

Those two instruments are SO different.
The tone of the drums, the size of the keys, the mic processor, the storage mediums, the complexity of the rhythm styles and fills .......
These 2 are like night and day, and it's not likely that both will suit the same player. Better play them alot before you decide. They have so many different quirks about them.

Hands down, the Tyros has the best aftermarket support.
The 7000 has the best sound system going
The Tyros is light
The kn is heavier
Both have color screens
The Tyros handles midi playback better ( selection and execution)
The kn plays audio files(MP3)

So, you see ...... it's apples and oranges, my sunny friend !

Hello Sunster:

UD is right, but I need to ask you, are you going to play music with the tabla sounds/kit?....for that, I would recomend a Ketron SD1+, is not like Tyros or KN7000, but you can do things in the SD1+ not available in either one of the Ymai or KN......like sampler, a superb sound generation, even is over 2 years that came out, vocalist, 16 megs RAM, 6 Gig HD Standart....and many other features that allow you to customise, tune, make your own scales, etc.

Hi,
take a look to the Korg PA1 X (pro). It's now cheaper because the success.
Another good idea is to combine Tyros with a Roland Discover module or keyboard, because the Roland contains some of the Technics voices, you may miss in Tyros.
And if you need a good organ, the roland drawbar module sounds very authentical and makes it easy to foget the KN special features.
For MP3 playback I would use a MP3 CD player, because so you are ready when someone asks you to play a CD.
