1 Do you use Single Registrations
2 Do you experience delay in changing Regs (single)
2 Does anyone Know if there is an improvement in this function in Sd1 as compared to X1. ??.
Ps I do love x1 but I need to get to bottom of this issue.
Pierce.

1-Yes I do use single registration.
2- Yes, there is a delay using single registration.
3- No, SD1 is exactly the same as the X1 as far as registration changing.

flowerssupply,

See response below:

1 Do you use Single Registrations
>>>AJ: Yes, along with GLOBAL REGISTRATIONS ... it depends on what you really want to do.

2 Do you experience delay in changing Regs (single)
>>>AJ: Yes (Single). Remember that Single registrations are stored and read in from FD/HD. This means there has to be some 'access' time for the machine to access the correct address locations in the HD/FD (It's like opening a word doc from FD ver HD with the former being a little slower!). Whenever you use a mechanical device for storage of data, access time is usually longer.
For this reason (unless you access more than 198 Registers per gig/at a time), it would be smart to use the GLOBAL registers. These are the same as SINGLE registers BUT they are located & accessed directly from MEMORY on the X1/SD1. The contents of the REGISTRATION are called up instantaneously! You can save a BLOCK of GLOBAL Registers on HD and load this BLOCK (of 198 registers) at the begining of the show, during your break etc) and access them during the show, one after another. With the arranger on, you can even smoothly change styles/sounds/settings etc by changing the GLOBAL registration. There will hardly be a glitch (unless the tempo values stored in either registration are greatly different. The only thing you'll loose when using BLOCK Registrations is the ability to load any associated TEXT files since these registrations DO NOT access the FD/HD when called.
We have taken note of this and with new technology, hope to increase access time in the feature, maybe via using different storage devices?

3 Does anyone Know if there is an improvement in this function in Sd1 as compared to X1
>>>AJ: See (2) above.

Thanks,

AJ

Thanks all for replies I understand it all . I do however use Text for all Sets-- I use it to remind me of numbers to sing and to help with words / chords partiularly in new songs. Also Global does not register sounds on right hand side. ??? Anyway I am glad to confirm that there is an understandable delay in it all and I am not expecting a majot improvement --untill computers get to respond instantly!!! I needed to know this to see which way I might go with my programme in future. Pierce

PS Single regs are so handy that I may stay with it OR perhaps use a combination of both. The delay is not a big issue as it only happens while in a set of songs and there is no problem for me re any Glitch it is purely that when I say (as style is playing) "now folks lets do a little rockin all over the world" I amy have to add a few "here we Go Nows to wait for my text and style. Its still a fantastic system. Accordion on X1 is superb.I have had people come up saying that they never though they would hear so realistic a sound. Pierce

AJ,
Even with Block registration there is a 1 second delay while changing Regs.
I know it is accessed from the Memory but it takes time for the keyboard to understand or absorb the numbers you punched !!
To me, it's usefull when you play the WHOLE song using the same registration but it's not good if you have different Regs for different parts of the song.

I only use one reg per song -- but it would help greatly if a different time signature could opertate per arrangement. In a block or single reg it would then be possible to have a change from 3/4 to 4/4 within the song thus keeping the dancers eg a weedding on their toes. Also if arrangements could allow for the relevant tempo changes in a song. Clearly several regs is a way of achieving this but due to unfixable delays in single regs and minor delay in block regs a system (in addition to Regs) within the style arrangement buttons would be instant --I THINK.
