There's one for sale in my town (Gothenburg, Sweden) for a nice sum of 43,000.00SEK. That's about US$4300! I can afford it, but I'd be paying for it for a long time.

Incase you don't know, the Oberheim 4-voice is one of those rare must have synths.

here's a pic:

drool..

4300$ US is almost equal to 7000$ Canadian

i'd never pay that amount for 1 measly 4voice board

That really is a lot of money; You could buy a car instead of the synth.
I do not think that it will be satisfying giving all that money for a synth. Yes, I know, it's not an everyday-synth.
But I would not do it.

By the way: greetings to Götheborg. The last time I've been there is quite a long time ago (about 10 years). A weekend trip with Stena-Line. But north of Götheborg we have made several sailing trips to e.g. Strömstad, Smögen, Udevalla, the little island Stegelholmen.
If You go there the next time, please give greetings to the landscape there. It is very beautiful!

Bye
Nils

Well, the 4 voice cost $4000 US when it came out, according to my records.

I wouldn't pay that much for it unless it was the 8 voice and it was MINT. But honestly I'd rather have a vintage MOOG or ROLAND over the OB, but If I had the cash lying around, and there was one in my city, I probably would...

I was in a store today and there were two Rhodes pianos. A 73 stage for $1299US, and an 88stage for $1399 !!!! Woah! Not long ago, I was buying them for 50-100 bucks.
My buddy has a Prophet600 that's not too expensive. Call Don @ 215-736-8055 USA

That really is a lot of money . Oberheim synths were plagued with reliability problems when they were new , now that it's well over 25 years old , you know it hasn't gotten better . It is unique in the fact that each of the 4 voices can have it's own tone and envelope settings . You have to remember that it's not rare because OBERHEIM ment it to be , it's rare because it was a poor seller . It was too expensive , and the YAMAHA CS-50 , CS-60 , CS-80 , MOOG POLYMOOG , ROLAND RS-505 simply out sold it . Also The SQUENTIAL CIRCUITS PROPHET 5 was right around the corner . It's cool , but it ain't $4,300 cool .

I'm not sure that this helps at all, but for what it's worth... I was curious myself, so I took a look over at the Synth Site to find what the average selling price might be. According to the "Synth Site Adbot ", the average selling price ( of a whopping whole 2 boards ) was $ 825 USD. It also states that the last one was sold in February of last year through Adbot for $ 750 USD. Of course there is no mention of what condition the two might have been in.

If you're curious, here is the URL: http://www.sonicstate.com/synth/oberheim_4voice.cfm

Another sight that might be worth a look at is ; http://www.analogsynths.com/stocklist.html

Because I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer and I had to look twice and change the date that it was sold, I'll now close with.....

You have to remember this is a shop, but still. They're selling 1 separate SEM-module for ~US$1000! If you look at the pic you'll see the SEMs, the four modules. Each SEM is a 2 osc synth.

Pretty funny.
