Hi Folks? Can any PA-80 user advise me what would be the ideal microphone for using with the vocal-board? Any comments would be appreciated. Tel.

Choose a mic that compliments YOUR voice. The vocal board can handle a wide range of outputs. The choice is the same as if you were using a PA. Get the one that you like, and the Korg will do it justice.
I like the EV767a - great sound, great price, very durable mic.

Tel, I use an AKG c1000 mic which has been great. My overall suggestion would be to look at the condenser mics, they do more justice to vocals than a dynamic mic does. The downside though is if you have a crappy voice to begin with like mine is, it heightens how crappy it is.

58's and 57's have NOTHING in common except the brand name. They sound totally different, and you'll need to listen to the difference. The 57 seems to works better for girls voices ( at lest, the girls I know) and they both have significantly LOWER outout gain than the EV I use.
I also have several AKG C1000s's and I love them in the studio. They are very sensitive and have great output, but require a battery or phantom power. (which the PA80 does NOT have)
The day of the SM58 is not over, but it sure has a boatload of competition in the newer models. Even the Shure Beta versions are an improvement. More sizzle, more punch, more volume.(more $$$ too)
Go listen .... don't shop for a mic on line.

I have used the akg 1000, and its a great mic.But it does need Phantom power or a battery.I also have a shure sm58 which is probably one of the most durable mics around. However for my money,I prefer the sennheiser e855.I bought it about six months ago,and I love it.Terry.

The EV767A also works well for me with the PA80. SM58 is ok too, and I think of the 57 as more a recording mic ( for instruments ) than I do a vocalist's mic ( at least in my studio it's that way ) . I agree with Uncle Dave and have always believed in that a vocalist should choose the mic that fits his / her voice. Different mics for different voices....

Terry .... I also use the senn e855 and love it, but the last 2 gigs I worked, one with my PA set up and another with a different PA, I got some 'buzz'- like distortion from the mic ... any idea as to what would cause this to happen? ....
thnx,
t.

Maybe a bad solder connection on one of the pins....either at the mic end, or in the cable connector. Lots of plugging and unplugging can cause connections to loose some integrety after a time.

Sorry Tony,I don't have a clue.As Uncle Dave says,it could be a bad connection.
I got my akg 1000 out today to compare with the E855 and I found that I got a bit more volume and a little more mid range from the akg. However the Sennheiser is more comfortable to sing into close up, without popping or distortion. The Akg is a much better mike for recording acoustic guitar and such.I would use either for on stage vocals with the edge going to the E855.
