I was thinking what would it take to get the arranger functionality of a Tyros coupled with the feel of a pro keyboard. I believe I have the killer solution.

Now that you can get the heart of the Tyros including its superb sounds in the Yamaha PSR3000, why not add the Yamaha P250 stage piano to get the best of both worlds.

The Yamaha P250 carries the best piano sample found on any electronic piano that comes closest to a real acoustic grand. It sounds better than even the new Yamaha PLG150 AP plug-in board played through a Motif ES.

Besides, the P250 has a graded hammer action 88 note keyboard with a superb feel, even surpassing the Yamaha S90.

In short, the P250 is the nearest competitor to a real piano that you can haul around. It can be had for around $1800 street price. Add the PSR3000 for another $1400 and for a grand total of $3200 you have got yourself a real playable grand piano with a top-notch arranger to boot. Just place the PSR3000 on top and play it through the P250 via MIDI.

That's not a 76-note Tyros. I have a more challenging example of something I find interesting:

Carlos Wagner Dias of Boston, MA carwagdias@aol.com made this homemade dual-manual instrument using two Fatar keyboards and some modules. You can read the entire story here:
http://cdias.photosite.com/Keyboard-Rig/

The concept of building a custom keyboard is very attractive... I could really enjoy a project like that. Carlos' approach is inspiring because he cut the keyboards to the length he wanted and adjusted the action to fit his style. His choice of modules is good too but I'd probably want to go more with a softsynth approach, possibly using something like the Muse Receptor or even more ambitious would be to build a soft studio host computer right into the instrument. Well, it makes for nice daydreams at least.

The Pro is the MAN!!! Where did you find about Carlos Wagner? This person is a design genius. My eyes almost popped out in bewilderment as I browsed through the pictures detailing this amazing contraption.

If anybody tries to better this design, it has to be The Pro. He has two Yamaha 9000Pro 76 arrangers amongst other things!

It is refreshing too see such innovative talent and depth of passion for ones hobby. Yamaha take note…if you build it, they will come.

I just love it!!!

I like how he also has a rack mount below the bottom manual for amps, and rack mixer...very nice touch indeed.

It's just amazing; the ingenuity out there.
