In a similar vein, we often fail to understand why Americans can't say the second 'i' in 'Aluminium'!! 
It's because it isn't spelt with a second "i" in the US, it is "aluminum" in the US not "aluminium" as in the UK or Australia.
And in Spanish it is "aluminio"
