It is not necessary to play both the bass and the chords at the same time. One only needs to play the desired chord, the arranger fills in a nice bass based on the current style selected. Having played an Iorio H with a Wilgamat rythem unit, I am very used to playing this way. While a chord is playing I can do a kind of bass run and the chord will not change unless I change the chord myself with a chord button. You can set the SD3 for manual bass, but I haven't quite figured out yet how to do that and keep the accompaniment right without hitting both the bass and chord initially at the same time. Probably haven't been too concerned since I like the bass lines provided by the arranger. Don't know if this message helped or hindered!
