If CME hasn't succeeded in helping you resolve the apparent USB problem, perhaps some of the following might help:

1)XP has some known USB issues, and the SP1 (Service Pack 1) update fixes a lot. SP2 might also help. Here's a URL where that and other XP/USB info can be found: http://www.usbman.com/winxpusbguide.htm

2)Here's some more general info on USB: http://www.usbman.com/USB_Guides.htm http://8help.osu.edu/1381.html

3)From the horses mouth: http://www.microsoft.com/
Enter "XP USB troubleshooting" (without the quotation marks) in the search box at the upper right of the page. That should result in links to several useful articles. Also, you should be able to get the service packs at the Microsoft site if you don't already have them installed.
